Russian Imperial porcelain manufacture was named at Soviet times
in honour of famous Russian scientist, M.V. Lomonosov.
Thus, the question is - why it happened?
Did M.V. Lomonosov took significant part in Russian Porcelain industry?
The answer is both Yes and No.
Michail Lomonosov really helped imperial porcelain manufacture to find the secret
of porcelain production.
But it was His younger scoolmate, Dmitry Vinogradov who really founded secret of porcelain production.
Both Lomonosov and Vinogradov studied same science at similar time.
They was friends and Lomonosov helped a lot to found Porcelain secret.
But Lomonosov is much more known, that is why His name was given to the Lomonosov factory.
M.V. Lomonosov name was very popular and it was given not only to Lomonosov factory,
but also to Moscow Univercity, city at Petersburg suburbs, and even to metro station near the place where
Lomonosov porcelain manufacture located.
But we have to remember it was Dmitry Vinogradov who have founded porcelain secret at Russia,
developed technology to produce it and died due to job made was too complex.
