St.Petersburg`s first porcelain factory, founded in 1744 by decree of the Russian Queen Yelizaveta, daughter of Peter 1, Lomonosov Porcelain was "to serve the cause of national industry and art." The factory`s ties to the Russian Royal Family implied very high requirements for porcelain, positioning it as an important art form. The very word "porcelain" or "China" came from the east, and means "royal", "regal" or "the domain of the rulers" in translation. The hour of glory for the royal porcelain factory came when Queen Katherine the Second ordered it to manufacture luxury tableware sets for the court. Some of them number over a thousand items each. The magnificence of those plates, vases and tabletops was a perfect match for the splendor of St. Petersburg`s palaces built by world-famous architects. In 1925, when the nation celebrated a bicentenary of its Academy of Sciences, the factory was named after Mikhail V. Lomonosov - Russia`s first academic scientist. The high artistic level of the factory`s products and the superb craftsmanship of their creators have won the factory multiple awards at domestic and international exhibits and trade fairs. At London`s Sotheby`s auction, a single Lomonosov Porcelain plate easily nets a starting price of 20,000 Pound Sterling. Lomonosov Porcelain was the first porcelain manufacturer in Russia to develop and commercially implement the alabaster porcelain technology. This fine, delicate porcelain is whiter then the usual kind, and thin almost to the point of being translucent. Only three other countries in the world make this kind of porcelain. The factory`s current product range includes: Tea, coffee and tableware service sets with up to 100 conventional and new patterns. A standard supply kit may be expanded to include more tableware items. The factory`s tableware sets include coffee and teacups wi th saucers: in three, seven-and eight-piece sets, two-piece tea and coffee sets, glasses and mugs. The gift/souvenir range is equally versatile, including carafes, teapots, decorative plates, vases and deep dishes. All LPF products are made of environmentally safe materials and properly certified.
